Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's plane has made an emergency landing in the US after a medical incident involving a RAAF crew member.

Axar.az informs, citing SBS news, the flight from Washington to Australia landed in St Louis, Missouri, on Tuesday evening local time.

The RAAF staff member was injured by an item that fell from an overhead locker.

The injury was being assessed as a possible concussion, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment in St Louis.

The military representative is not a personal member of the prime minister’s staff.

Albanese had travelled to the US to meet with Donald Trump for a highly anticipated bilateral meeting, which took 10 months to secure.

The two leaders met in the White House on Monday to discuss trade, AUKUS, critical minerals and a potential visit to Australia.

The trip was deemed a success, with the signing of a critical minerals deal and Trump throwing his support behind AUKUS.
