Lightning strike kills two children in Turkiye

A lightning strike hit a tree in the schoolyard of a secondary school in the Ergani district of Turkiye’s Diyarbakir province.

Axar.az informs, citing Turkish media, that the incident left two children dead and one person seriously injured.

At the time of the strike, 13-year-old Serkan Yildirim, 14-year-old Kasim Yildirim, and another child were standing under the tree.

Emergency medical teams transported the injured to hospital, but Serkan Yildirim and Kasim Yildirim died despite doctors’ efforts.

The third victim, who is being treated at Diyarbakir Gazi Yashargil Training and Research Hospital, is reported to be in critical condition.

It was noted that the deceased children were cousins.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.
