Bulgaria holds early elections for 52nd National Assembly

Early elections for the 52nd National Assembly (unicameral parliament) have begun in Bulgaria.

Axar.az reports, citing BTA News, that Bulgarians at home and abroad in 55 countries are voting on Sunday to elect 240 members of parliament.

More than 11,900 polling stations across the country opened at 7:00 a.m. local time and will remain open until 8:00 p.m., with the possibility of extension until 9:00 p.m. if voters are still in line.

This is the eighteenth parliamentary election since the start of democratic changes in 1989 and the seventh consecutive snap election since 2021.

Approximately 6.57 million people are eligible to vote.

A total of 24 political entities—14 parties and 10 coalitions—are participating in the elections. Around 4,786 candidates are competing for 240 parliamentary seats.

First unofficial results are expected after polls close in the evening.
