Magyar says Netanyahu would face arrest if he came to Hungary

Hungarian Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar said on Monday that his government would be obliged to detain Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he enters Hungarian territory.

Axar.az informs speaking at a Tisza Party press conference, Magyar said he had previously invited Netanyahu to Hungary’s October 23 commemorations, but reaffirmed on Monday that Hungary would remain a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He added that he had informed the Israeli prime minister that a future Hungarian government would stay within the ICC framework.

Magyar has previously said he would initiate Hungary’s re-accession to the court, but on Monday stated that the country’s withdrawal could still be halted and that Hungary would remain a member. He also said he believes Netanyahu is aware of the legal situation.

The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024 over allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Netanyahu visited Budapest in April 2025, during which Orban refused to arrest him.
