Pakistan thanks Trump for Iran ceasefire extension

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for agreeing to extend the ceasefire to allow continued diplomatic efforts.

Axar.az infroms that in a post on his X account, Sharif said the extension was made at Pakistan’s request and expressed appreciation on behalf of himself and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

He stated that Pakistan would continue its efforts toward a negotiated settlement of the conflict and expressed hope that both sides would maintain the ceasefire.

"I sincerely hope that both sides will continue to observe the ceasefire and be able to conclude a comprehensive ‘Peace Deal’ during the second round of talks scheduled at Islamabad for a permanent end to the conflict," he added.

It was noted that the second round of talks was reportedly scheduled to take place in Islamabad today, but was postponed indefinitely due to Iran’s position.

It should be recalled that a two-week ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States was reached on April 8. The ceasefire was set to expire today. However, Trump announced yesterday that it had been extended at Pakistan’s request.
