'You'd be speaking French': King Charles pokes fun at Trump

At a White House state dinner on Tuesday, King Charles III responded to Donald Trump with a light joke, echoing Trump’s own earlier remarks in a playful exchange.

Axar.az informs that during their dinner toasts, the two heads of state exchanged jokes, with Charles referring to earlier remarks made by Trump about European allies, whom he has accused of relying too heavily on US defense support since World War II.

“You recently commented, Mr. President, that if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German. Dare I say that, if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French,” Charles quipped.

Trump had previously said at the Davos summit in January that without US help in World War II, “you'd be speaking German and a little Japanese.”
