Iran highlights Azerbaijan in new trade corridor plans

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has instructed officials to develop alternative trade corridors, including routes from Azerbaijan.

Axar.az infrorms that the president stressed the need to make maximum use of the country’s northern ports, develop alternative trade corridors, and utilize the capabilities of neighboring countries, including Pakistan, Russia, and Azerbaijan, to secure and import certain essential goods.

"He also called for speeding up the implementation of relevant agreements in this area,” the presidential press service said following a meeting with ministers and the head of Iran’s Central Bank.

It was noted that the meeting included a detailed review of the current situation regarding imports of key goods, medicines, and essential resources amid restrictions at some southern border crossings.

According to the economy minister’s report, consultations with neighboring countries helped activate and strengthen the capacity of many land border checkpoints and alternative transport routes in order to simplify and increase imports.
