Migrants from Tajikistan in Moscow are trying not to leave their homes because they fear deportation or being sent en masse to the war in Ukraine because of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall.

Axar.az reports that the "New York Times" newspaper published information about this.

According to information, because the 4 suspects detained in the attack in Moscow are from Tajikistan, the rhetoric against migrants on the Internet has intensified in Russia:

"Xenophobia is most actively published on the public pages of military bloggers who are supporters of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, mainly in the posts of the far-right. As a result, the Kremlin is meeting the demands of war supporters by promising tougher measures against migrants, while at the same time trying to prevent the emergence of inter-ethnic tensions in society. According to the statistics of the Russian government, about one million citizens of Tajikistan were registered as labour migrants in the country last year. The manager of a food establishment in Moscow where Tajiks work said that this mood is reminiscent of the 2000s: Caucasian Muslims faced widespread discrimination after terrorist attacks and the war in Chechnya. "Tajiks in Moscow are so afraid that they don't even go out."

Saydanvar, a 25-year-old Tajik human rights defender who recently left Moscow, said that they are afraid not only of deportation, but also of being involved in the war in Ukraine.

"Tajiks are really afraid that the Russian authorities will start sending them to the front to fight en masse in order to take revenge on our Tajik people."
