JDP lost the election - Erdogan's first statement

The President of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, addressed the citizens at the JDP's Central Headquarters regarding the local government elections.

Axar.az reports that Erdogan reacted to the election defeat in his appeal:

"Dear nation, dear Ankarans, dear brothers, I greet you with my sincere feelings, love and respect. At the same time, I respectfully convey my greetings to the whole of Turkiye and each individual of 85 million people. Regardless of the results, the winner of this election is first and foremost our democracy.

The elections held on March 31 were our 18th election exam in the last 22 years. 9 months after our victory in the May 14-28 elections, unfortunately, we did not get the result we wanted and hoped for in the local election exam. As the JDP and the Union of the Republic, we prepared intensively for this election, as before.

My brothers, we have always been on the side of democracy, national will, and correct elections. Today, we act with the same sense of responsibility. We know no power greater than the great will of the nation.

Turkiye has 4 more years worth more than the treasure. We all must make the most of this time together. We cannot waste this period with discussions that will take up the time of the nation and the country. As a political party that has completed the 21st year of power, we are aware of the duties that fall upon us both in the government and in local self-government bodies. We will pay more attention to the actual issues of our country, especially the revival of the earthquake zone, and the elimination of our economic problems."
