Azerbaijan is ready to assist in the supply of natural gas to Syria.
Axar.az informs, citing APА, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told journalists following his visit to Azerbaijan.
According to Erdogan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev personally conveyed this readiness during their meeting.
"In my meeting with my brother Ilham Aliyev, he said, ‘I am ready to provide all kinds of support regarding natural gas to Syria.’ It is very important that Ilham Aliyev has taken such an approach, because Syria’s most pressing problem right now is natural gas. Natural gas is needed to generate energy. There is an ongoing energy problem. We are also trying to provide some energy assistance within our capabilities. But today, when I received this good news from Mr. Ilham, I truly felt at peace. As soon as I return, I will pass this good news on to my energy minister. He will also inform Mr. Sharaa (Syrian leader – ed.) about it. God willing, we aim to combine our efforts with the support to be provided by Azerbaijan and take this step together. Steps have already been taken toward lifting the sanctions. We intend to continue by strengthening this process," Erdogan emphasized.
