An 8.7-magnitude earthquake struck Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.
Axar.az reports that the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences published information on its Telegram channel.
It was reported that this is the most powerful earthquake since 1952.
The earthquake affected not only Russia but also other countries. The first tsunami wave has already been recorded in the port of Hanasaki in Hokkaido Prefecture, located in northern Japan.
The US Honolulu Emergency Management Agency has called for the evacuation of some coastal areas of the Hawaiian Islands due to the threat of tsunami waves caused by the earthquake.
The governor of the Kamchatka region has advised residents not to approach the coastline.
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has appealed to the population to evacuate areas under a tsunami warning. Ishiba said the government will do everything in its power to prevent any harm to the population, although it is not yet clear how events will unfold.
