U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the launch of “Project Freedom,” a humanitarian operation aimed at escorting ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Axar.az informs that in a post on Truth Social, Trump said multiple countries—many not involved in the conflict—had asked Washington to help free vessels stuck in the strategic waterway. He noted that these ships belong to “neutral and innocent bystanders” affected by the situation.
“This process, Project Freedom, will begin Monday morning, Middle East time. I am fully aware that my Representatives are having very positive discussions with the Country of Iran, and that these discussions could lead to something very positive for all,” Trump wrote.
The American leader described the initiative as a humanitarian effort involving the United States, Middle Eastern countries and Iran.
"This is a Humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran. Many of these Ships are running low on food, and everything else necessary for largescale crews to stay on board in a healthy and sanitary manner. I think it would go a long way in showing Goodwill on behalf of all of those who have been fighting so strenuously over the last number of months," Trump continued.
The president warned that any interference with the operation would be met with force if necessary.
