Europe must assume "strategic responsibility" and be able to defend the continent on its own in a very short time.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by the High Representative of the European Union for foreign policy, Joseph Borrell, in his book "Europe between Two Wars".

Europe's top diplomat believes that the European Union needs a "paradigm change in European defence":

"We have entrusted our security to the United States for too long. Europe's current economic system has worked well in peacetime, but now because Russia attacked Ukraine, and if the Kremlin goes any further, changes will be needed.

As America's involvement in Europe diminishes, this war poses an existential threat to the European Union."
