The trip of Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan to Canada has been canceled.
Axar.az informs that this was reported by the publication "Hraparak."
Simonyan was supposed to visit Ottawa, Canada, from September 25 to 30.
In a statement to the publication, Movses Arutyunyan, the press secretary of the Armenian Parliament, clarified that the trip was not canceled but postponed indefinitely due to the political crisis in Canada. He explained that one of the political forces in Canada left the coalition, leading to an internal political crisis. The Speaker of the House of Commons in Canada called Simonyan to request a change in the timing of the visit, to which Simonyan agreed.
The publication noted that just a few days ago, the Central Committee of the Dashnaktsutyun party issued a statement regarding Simonyan's visit to Canada. The statement expressed concern over the delegation being composed only of members from the ruling Civil Contract Party, excluding opposition members. It was also mentioned that opposition deputies from the Armenia-Canada parliamentary friendship faction were deliberately removed from the delegation.
"Armenians in Canada do not intend to welcome the current administration of Armenia, which violates the fundamental principles of democracy and basic human rights," the statement emphasized.
Armenian media claims that this statement is the reason for the cancellation of Simonyan's trip.
