Thousands of protesters gathered in in Spain’s capital, Madrid.

Protesters are demanding the resignation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the holding of snap parliamentary elections.

The protests were triggered by a recent blackout in the country. Participants blame the government for the deterioration of infrastructure and have referred to the country as a “banana republic.”
