President Trump announced that the U.S. will impose 100% secondary tariffs on countries doing business with Russia if a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
Axar.az, citing CBS News, reports that expressing deep frustration with Vladimir Putin, Trump emphasized that “talk doesn’t mean anything” without action.
Alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump also confirmed a new deal: the U.S. will manufacture weapons for NATO countries, who will then supply them to Ukraine, fully funded by the Europeans.
This shift follows earlier pauses in U.S. weapon shipments to Ukraine, which Trump has now reversed. Trump reiterated that Ukraine must be able to defend itself, but without direct U.S. financial responsibility.
Meanwhile, allies like Senator Lindsey Graham are pushing legislation for even harsher tariffs—up to 500%—on nations aiding Russia. Lawmakers also urged Trump to convert seized Russian assets into a trust fund to support Ukraine.
