The Georgian special services have detained two individuals, including one Georgian citizen, in Batumi for the illegal trade of uranium, a radioactive chemical element.

Axar.az reports that this was announced by Bacha Mgeladze, the Director of the Counterterrorism Center of Georgia’s State Security Service.

“As a result of a joint operation carried out by the Counterintelligence Department and the Special Operations Department, one Georgian and one foreign citizen involved in the illegal trade of nuclear material—specifically uranium—were detained in Batumi.

According to the deal made between the suspects, the illegal sale of the uranium was planned for $3 million. This nuclear material could be used in the production of various explosive devices and in the execution of terrorist attacks,” he stated.
