The last 10 years have been full of amazing, thought-provoking,and breathtaking movies. While the list for the best movies from the last decade could reach as high as 100 movies, we decided to condense the list with our top 10 favorites.

Axar.az reports that these movies have been carefully selected for your viewing pleasure and are in no particular order.

1. Into the wild (2007)

Director: Sean Penn

Cast: Emile Hirsch, Vince Vaughn, and Catherine Keener

Based on the novel written by Jon Krakauer that tells the true story of Christopher, a college graduate who left everything and traveled to Alaska.

2. The dark knight (2008)

Director: Christopher Nolan

Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart

The third installment in Christopher Nolan's ‘’Batman’’ series. It is considered one of the best Batman movies of all time, and Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker is unforgettable.

3. Avatar (2009)

Director: James Cameron

Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver

This fantastic adventure set on the mystical planet Pandora was written by the famous director James Cameron and shot in 3D. The movie broke box office records and won 3 Oscars and a Golden Globe for Best Film and Best Director.

4. True grit (2010)

Director: Ethan Coen, Joel Coen

Cast: Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld, Josh Brolin

15-year old Mattie Ross sets out on a grand adventure to exact revenge on her father’s murderer.

5. Melancholia (2011)

Director: Lars von Trier

Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland

Lars von Trier tells Melancholia in two parts. In the first part, we see one of the most memorable weddings in movie history. In the second part, two sisters and their family members are dragged into chaos as the shadow of an approaching planet looms over them. Melancholia is one of Trier's most controversial and best movies.

6. Amour (2012)

Director: Michael Haneke

Cast: Jean-Louis Trintignant, Emmanuelle Riva, Isabelle Huppert

Two people in their 80’s test their love after being paralyzed. The movie won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 and the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 2013 Academy Awards.

7. Only lovers left alive (2013)

Director: Jim Jarmusch

Cast: Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, John Hurt

The story of two reunited lovers, who just so happen to be vampires.

8. Gone Girl (2014)

Director: David Fincher

Cast: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris

After Amy's sudden disappearance on her 5th wedding anniversary, all eyes have turned to her husband Nick.

9. The Revenant (2015)

Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu

Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Will Poulter

The movie responsible for Leonardo DiCaprio’s first Oscar, ‘’The Revenant’’ tells the story of survival and revenge.

10. Deadpool (2016)

Director: Tim Miller

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, TJ Miller, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein

Based on a lesser-known Marvel superhero – or rather, an anti-hero – ‘’Deadpool’’ tells an extraordinary and hilarious story about revenge.
