A meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, was held on the sidelines of a bilateral roundtable with the participation of representatives of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society within the framework of the “Peace Bridge” initiative in Gabala.
Axar.az informs that during the meeting, Hikmet Hajiyev exchanged views with the participants and also responded to questions from the Armenian delegation.
The Azerbaijani government’s commitment to the peace agenda was emphasized at the meeting.
Hikmet Hajiyev reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the peace agenda agreed upon between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington and the spirit of the Washington Summit.
The Assistant to the President also noted that trade relations between the two countries had been established and the transit of goods from the territory of Azerbaijan to Armenia had been ensured. He underscored the implementation of the TRIPP project will change the situation and redefine the transportation landscape in the region.
Hikmet Hajiyev underlined that as the negotiations on the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia are bilateral, it is important that these exchanges and confidence-building measures between civil societies also be of a bilateral character.
The Assistant to the President emphasized that peace and security in the South Caucasus are extremely crucial amid new turmoil and wars unfolding in the world.
