The United States and Russia are nearing a point of "direct military conflict," warned Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview published Friday in a Turkish newspaper, just days before the US presidential election.

Axar.az reports that , citing Agency France Press, Lavrov stated, “Under the current president (Joe Biden), who has escalated Russophobia in the US to its logical conclusion, our countries are on the brink of direct military conflict,” although he did not provide further details.

When asked about the upcoming election between former Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Lavrov indicated that the outcome would have little impact on Russia.

He noted, “We have no preference. During the Trump administration, the highest number of anti-Russian sanctions were imposed compared to previous administrations.”

Lavrov added, “Regardless of who wins the election, we don’t expect any change in the United States' anti-Russian stance.”
