Turkiye is not a "banana republic"; power cannot be seized from the streets because political institutions are functional, parties are strong, media freedom exists to some extent, society is active, and there are politicized citizens and ideological groups.

Axar.az reports that politician Natiq Jafarli made these remarks.

He stated that the opposition's primary focus in the current situation could be pushing for early elections, but the AKP does not intend to hold elections in the next two years.

"Power in Turkiye can only change through the ballot box, and that is how it will happen. The real question now is whether Imamoğlu’s popularity can be maintained at its current level if there are no elections for at least two years or whether the AKP will discredit him with evidence—or even fabrications.

The AKP acted now because targeting the main opposition candidate just months before an election would have propelled him to power. But now, with over two years left, they have time to lower Imamoğlu’s approval ratings and create internal divisions within the opposition.

One more thing to remember—governments always have significant advantages, even in the most democratic countries. However, time is needed to capitalize on these advantages. If the AKP can resolve the 'Kurdish issue' and terrorism, they will gain a major edge; if the economy improves, they will gain more support. As a side note, one of the most objective indicators in the current situation is the economy—stocks are already rising slightly, and the dollar has stabilized. If they can establish stability in the stock and currency markets, this will also work in the AKP’s favor.

However, if the opposition acts wisely, avoids betrayals from within, and remains united, they can maintain high ratings over the next two years and secure victory in the next elections."
