During the period of strained relations between Moscow and Baku, the Russian community in Azerbaijan did not show any particular sympathy toward Russia; on the contrary, they demonstrated greater loyalty to their own country, Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that these words were said by Yevgeny Primakov, head of the Federal Agency for the Affairs of Compatriots Living Abroad (Rossotrudnichestvo) of the Russian Federation, in an interview with RBK.

According to him, although some members of this community have made statements, these remarks have been in support of Azerbaijan rather than Russia. Primakov said he finds this approach understandable, as these individuals are citizens of Azerbaijan. However, he admitted that he would like to see more support and attachment to Russia.

The agency head emphasized that Russia is a state that has the right to expect loyalty from representatives of its people, and this should not conflict with the interests of the countries in which they reside.
