A declaration on the Khojaly genocide was signed in the US

"Remember Khojaly" event dedicated to the memory of the Khojaly genocide victims was held in Houston, Texas, USA. Representatives of the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and other countries, well-known figures of the local community, as well as members of communities friendly to Azerbaijan, took part in the event organized by the Houston-Baku Twin Cities Association and the "Azerbaijan Center" operating under it and with the support of the State Committee.

Axar.az reports that the State Committee for Work with Diaspora said that at the event hosted by Leyla Tagiyeva, a young student studying in Houston, the national anthems of Azerbaijan and the United States were first played, and the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide was commemorated with a minute of silence. Then the participants of the event were given detailed information about the Khojaly genocide.

Later, videos related to acts of vandalism committed by Armenians and current construction works were shown in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.

Texas House of Representatives member Harvey Johnson said in his speech that he has signed a declaration on the Khojaly genocide and will present it to the head of the diaspora organization. He said that during his visit to Azerbaijan, he witnessed that our country is a beautiful developing country. X. Johnson said that he was disappointed for the victims of the Khojaly genocide and emphasized the importance of peace and tranquillity in the world, and the need for friends to support each other and get out of the difficult situation.

Salhat Abbasova, representative of the State Committee on Diaspora Affairs, noted that for more than 30 years, the people of Azerbaijan have been demanding the punishment of those who committed the genocide in Khojaly and crimes against humanity in international courts with the slogan "Justice for Khojaly" all over the world. "President Ilham Aliyev's raising of the Azerbaijani flag in Khojaly on October 15, 2023 has increased hopes that "justice to Khojaly" will be provided. Although the lives of the victims of Khojaly will not be restored by bringing criminals to international courts, there is no doubt that their souls will be happy and faith in justice will increase in the society," he added.

Nigar Shirelizade, the representative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United States, spoke about the statements made by international organizations regarding the genocide and called on the international community to be fairer in the Khojaly genocide issue.

Riad Efendi, the vice-president of the Houston-Baku Twin Cities Association, delivered a political-analytical report on the Karabakh and Khojaly genocide.

In the end, Irada Akhundova, head of the Houston-Baku Twin Cities Association, thanked the participants of the event, noted that the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide is commemorated every year, that restoration and construction works are being carried out in the liberated territories, and that the internally displaced persons will soon return to their homes....
