Azerbaijan may invite countries to conclude a ceasefire during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku.

Axar.az reports that Hikmat Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, said this in an interview with "Observer" newspaper.

"We are discussing a ceasefire with various partners during the COP29 as well as during the Olympics. However, the discussion is at an early stage. This will require additional consultations and discussions," Hikmet Hajiyev said.

H. Hajiyev emphasized that, in addition to the fight against climate change, Azerbaijan is making additional efforts to turn COP29 into the next success story and peace conference in the field of peace, and will continue to do so in the future:

"We are working to advance the peace agenda. The climate crisis is likely to exacerbate food and water shortages, increase migration, increase pressure on states, and potentially lead to border problems.

Security has many elements and it cannot be denied that climate impacts, environmental change or environmental issues are related to national security and peace. "Climate change is part of national and global security."
