Sabah secures historic Premier League title

“Sabah” has been crowned champion of the Misli Premier League for the first time in its history.

Axar.az reports, this became official after “Neftchi” defeated “Qarabag” in a postponed match of the XXI round.

The match, played at “Palms Sports Arena,” ended in a 2–1 victory for the home side.

Emil Safarov opened the scoring in the 55th minute, while Bassala Sambou doubled the lead in the 90+2 minute. “Qarabag” defender Elvin Badalov scored an own goal in the 85th minute.

With this result, “Neftchi” climbed to fourth place with 47 points, while second-placed “Qarabag,” on 59 points after 29 matches, can no longer catch league leaders “Sabah,” who sit on 72 points.

As a result, “Sabah” has secured the Azerbaijani championship title for the first time in its history.

It should be noted that “Neftchi” extended their winless run against “Qarabag” to 18 matches, with their last victory dating back to 2021.
