Today’s meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office took place in a much calmer and more friendly atmosphere compared to their tense encounter in February.
Axar.az reports that CNN journalist Kevin Liptak has provided an update.
“This time, the Ukrainian side made special preparations to ensure a successful meeting. Zelensky presented Trump with a letter written by his wife and thanked U.S. First Lady Melania Trump for her message regarding children affected by the war.
In contrast to February—when U.S. Vice President James David Vance had called Zelensky ‘ungrateful’—this time, Zelensky began his speech by saying ‘thank you’ four times:
‘Thank you for the invitation. Thank you for your personal efforts to stop the massacres and the war. Thank you so much to you and your wife for creating this opportunity.’
This time, Zelensky wore a suit rather than military attire — a gesture seen as a response to Trump’s earlier criticism of his clothing in February. The change even prompted light-hearted jokes during the meeting.
Notably, Trump’s delegation — including Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steven Witkoff — remained silent during the meeting. In contrast, during the February talks, the delegation had openly voiced criticism,” the outlet reported.
