Germany considers adding war, disaster to school curriculum

Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has proposed adding war and disaster preparedness lessons to school curricula to help students respond to emergencies like fires, injuries, or crises.

Axar.az, citing DW, reports that Dobrindt's idea includes annual extended lessons on practical survival skills such as CPR, first aid, and civil defense awareness.

The initiative comes amid rising concerns about Russia’s threats and the ongoing war in Ukraine, with experts warning that NATO could face direct confrontation.

The plan aligns with Germany’s broader civil protection strategy, which includes a €10 billion investment in shelters, warning systems, and emergency supplies.

The German Teachers’ Association supports the proposal, saying it would build students’ resilience and help them calmly handle crises. Student representatives agree but stress that psychological support must accompany such lessons to avoid distress.
