Death sentence sought for former S. Korea President

A special prosecutor's group in South Korea has recommended that the court sentence former President Yun Seok-yol to death in the sedition case.

Axar.az informs that local media reported this.

According to the current legislation of South Korea, for an attempted coup in the country, the organizer of the attempt is given one of three punishments: the death penalty, life imprisonment, or life imprisonment without forced labor.

Recall that Yun Seok-yol was charged with organizing a rebellion in December 2024 for violating the constitution and declaring martial law. The court verdict in his case is expected to be announced in early February. The death penalty has not been applied in South Korea since 1997.
