Gafarova and Simonyan meet in Istanbul -

The speakers of the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Armenia discussed the process of normalizing relations between the two countries.

Axar.az reports Armenian parliament speaker Alen Simonyan wrote on his X account about his meeting with Milli Majlis speaker Sahiba Gafarova.

He stated that he met with Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova in Istanbul during the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and noted with satisfaction recent progress toward normalizing relations between the countries, including efforts to strengthen peace and stability as well as expand trade ties.

“We highlighted the important role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as a platform for interparliamentary cooperation and expressed appreciation to Secretary General Martin Chungong for his efforts in facilitating dialogue.

We also welcomed the renewed contacts between our parliamentary delegations since our meeting in Geneva in October 2025 and agreed to continue this engagement.

Constructive parliamentary dialogue remains key to building trust between our societies,” he said.
