U.S. attacks Iran in retaliation for helicopter downing

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces carried out strikes on Iranian air defense, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz with precision munitions from U.S. Air Force and Navy fighter jets.

Axar.az reports that CENTCOM said it conducted the self-defense strikes on June 9 at the direction of the Commander-in-Chief in response to the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter the previous day.

“The operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on U.S. forces and international commercial vessels transiting regional waters. U.S. forces remain vigilant and prepared to defend against unjustified Iranian aggression,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

Tasnim News Agency reported that areas in Sirik, Qeshm Island and Minab came under attacks carried out by US fighter jets.
