France to expel two Iranian diplomats

France will expel two Iranian diplomats in the coming days in response to what French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot described as the deliberate and unacceptable treatment of two French diplomats in Iran.

Axar.az reports that Barrot made the remarks in a post on X.

“The Iranian people, a great people, are the main victims of this period of extreme tension in the Middle East, caught between the bloody repression of the January 2026 protests and the bombings,” Barrot said.

He added that France stands with the Iranian people by supporting its artists, scientists and researchers.

“It is precisely because France stands with the Iranian people, supporting its artists, scientists and researchers, that two French diplomats were scandalously and deliberately attacked on July 19,” he said.

“I had announced that this intolerable act would have consequences. It has. Two Iranian diplomats in France will be expelled in the coming days,” Barrot added.

It should be noted that two employees of the French Embassy in Iran were detained in Tehran on July 19. Iranian authorities said they had been meeting with several wanted individuals and were briefly questioned.
