Iran has lodged a complaint with the United Nations over US sanctions against its aviation sector that have forced the cancellation of flights.

Axar.az reports, citing IRNA, that Abuzar Shiroudi, head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, said Monday that Iran’s formal protest against the restrictions imposed by the United States had been submitted to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), along with documents detailing disruptions to flights.

Since direct flights to Europe were restricted, connecting flights through regional airports, including Istanbul, have been used as an alternative.

He added that Iran is working to restore flights suspended by several countries and is seeking explanations through diplomatic channels.

Regarding Baghdad and Najaf airports, Shiroudi said Iraqi authorities are working to resume services, with Najaf expected to reopen first in the coming days.
