Lamine Yamal sets new Champions League record

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal overtook Kylian Mbappe to become the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history with his strike in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Axar.az reports, citing ESPN, that Yamal, 19, capitalised on a Villa mistake to open the scoring in the seventh minute at Spotify Camp Nou, bending the ball past Zion Suzuki to register his 14th goal in the competition.

Raphinha went on to add a pair of goals as the LaLiga champions outclassed Villa to hand the visitors their first loss of the League Phase and provisionally move up to second in the table.

Real Madrid forward Mbappe, who now has 72 goals in the Champions League, was previously the teenager to have netted the most times with 13.

Yamal's 14 goals have come in just 37 appearances, during which time he has broken a number of other Champions League records.

He remains the youngest player to ever start a game in the Champions League proper. He was aged just 16 years and 83 days when he made his full European debut against Porto.
