Imamoglu sentenced to 2 years, 1 month in prison

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who was removed from office and arrested, has been sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in prison over remarks he made about former Tuzla Mayor Shadi Yazici.

Axar.az reports, Turkish media, Imamoglu had previously stood trial in the same case three years ago and was acquitted twice. An appellate court overturned the rulings due to procedural irregularities

According to the reports, Imamoglu was also handed a “political ban” under Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code.
