Russia hopes for constructive ties with Serbia’s new leadership

Russia hopes that the new political force coming to power in Serbia will recognize that cooperation with Moscow is in Belgrade’s interests, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Axar.az reports that Peskov said Moscow hopes the new political force coming to power in Serbia will work constructively to further develop relations with Russia.

“We also hope that these new political forces will understand that cooperation with Russia serves Serbia’s interests, as it brings benefits to the country,” he added.

Early parliamentary elections were held in Serbia on October 25. After 96.47% of polling station protocols had been processed, the Republic Electoral Commission reported that the United Serbia bloc led by former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had lost to the opposition Student List, securing 39.27% of the vote against 52.57%, respectively.

It should be noted that during Aleksandar Vucic’s presidency, Serbia did not join many of the sanctions imposed on Russia.
