The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) denounced the bombardment by the government of Iran on its border area.

Axar.az reports citing NRT News.

The KRG department of foreign relations released a statement on Monday calling on the government of Iran to halt the attacks on civilians and the Kurdistan Region.

“Besides condemning it, the KRG does not want the residents of the Kurdistan Region’s border areas to become victims of issues between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the opposition groups,” the statement read.

The KRG will summon the Iranian consul-general in the Kurdistan Region to give him the message and the stance of the KRG on the matter and the consul will raise the message with the government of Iran.

Iranian artillery bombarded the villages of Gundazhor, Galazher and Kunareyan forest in the sub-district of Haji Omaran on the border with Iran. The bombardments wounded one woman and four Peshmerga of Iranian Kurdish group.

This is the first time this year that Iranian artillery has shelled villages in the Kurdistan Region.

Iranian artillery resumed shelling Kurdish villages in the sub-district of Sidakan and in Haji Omran in August last year after clashes broke out between Peshmerga fighters from the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDP-I) and Iranian soldiers.
