The USA is looking forward to the day when the territories of Azerbaijan will be completely cleared of mines.
Axar.az reports that US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mark Libby said this at the ceremony of presenting certificates to the soldiers in Aghdam.
According to him, the United States is with Azerbaijan in achieving the goal of completely demining the territories:
"It is clear to everyone that mine pollution here is a threat to human life and well-being. The United States is committed to reducing these threats around the world. Since 1993, the United States has allocated $4.7 billion to more than 100 countries for this purpose. Within the framework of these efforts, the United States allocated nearly 38 million dollars to Azerbaijan for demining operations.
The ambassador expressed his respect for the Azerbaijani soldiers who have completed their training and will soon start demining.
"I am especially pleased to see women among the new deminers. Empowering women means engaging the entire workforce of the country and harnessing their talents is the best way to tackle any challenge. Your work will help IDPs to return to their homes faster and safely."
M. Libby expressed his condolences to the relatives of those who died as a result of a mine explosion in Azerbaijan.
According to the diplomat, the United States is committed to increasing the technical capacity of demining organizations and supporting humanitarian mine action aimed at clearing deadly mines and unexploded ordnance.
