Iran plans to start construction of the "nuclear island" of the Karun nuclear power plant this fall.

Axar.az reports that Mohammad Islami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said this.

According to him, the first concrete pouring works on the "nuclear island" of Karun NPP are expected to start in autumn.

Pouring concrete on the foundation of the "Nuclear Island" means starting the construction not only of the reactor building, but also of the entire power unit of the NPP.

It should be noted that "Nuclear Island" is a complex of buildings and structures that ensure the operation of the nuclear reactor at the nuclear power plant.

At the end of October last year, Islami announced that Iran had started construction of the Karun NPP with a capacity of 300 MW in the west of the country.

Currently, there is only one nuclear power plant in Bushehr, which is being built with the help of the Russian side. The first unit of the NPP was connected to the national energy system of Iran in September 2011. The construction of the second unit continues, and a contract has been signed for the construction of the third power unit. The construction of block number 2 was officially started in the fall of 2019.
