In April 2023, Chinese leader Xi Jinping told European Commission (EC) head Ursula von der Leyen that the United States had provoked Beijing to attack Taiwan.

Axar.az reports that "Financial Times" has published information about this with reference to sources.

According to information, the Chinese leader said in a meeting with the head of the European Commission in April 2023 that Washington tried to deceive Beijing to attack the island, and that they did not fall into the trap of the United States.

China's embassy in Washington did not comment on Xi Jinping's statement, but noted that the United States sells arms to Taiwan and supports "separatist forces" on the island.

Ursula von der Leyen's representative said that the head of the EC did not provide information about personal meetings.

The White House has not made a statement on the issue.
