Iran's Zangezur plan: US agreement against Russia

The interests of Iran and the United States coincide in the issue of the Zangezur Corridor.

Axar.az reports that Shaan Gantakharyan, editor-in-chief of "Azdak" newspaper published in Beirut, said these words in his statement to the Armenian media.

He said that the West does not want this road to be under Russia's control, and Iran is trying to ensure that only Armenia controls the road so that its "access to the outside world" is reliable.

"There is no consensus among the geopolitical centers on this issue, so communication continues to remain closed. Not only Armenia's refusal plays a role in this."

According to Gantakharyan, Iran's firm rhetoric on the issue of the Zangezur Corridor is related to Armenia's Zangezur region being the most reliable point to ensure communication between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea between Armenia, Georgia and vice versa:

"There are reasons to think that Iran and the United States have reached an agreement on the opening of this line. This is evidenced by infrastructure works, as well as Iran's plans to open the largest permanent trade center abroad in Armenia. All this indicates the formation of new communications for Iran that are not based on the interests of Russia. The latest statements between Tehran and Moscow are related to this."
