German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a phone conversation with Russian President Volodymyr Putin after a two-year break.

Axar.az reports that the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Steffen Heberstreit, told journalists about this.

"The chancellor insisted that Russia is ready to negotiate with Ukraine in order to achieve a just and lasting peace," he said.

Scholtz also announced Germany's unwavering determination to support Kiev as long as necessary. He called on Putin to stop the conflict and withdraw the troops.

Haberstreit added that the chancellor had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky before his meeting with Putin.
