US President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order that will make English the official language of the country for the first time in its history.

Axar.az reports that the Wall Street Journal reported this, citing sources in the White House.

It was stated that this order would repeal the federal mandate issued by President Bill Clinton (1993-2001) requiring agencies and other organizations that receive federal funds to provide language assistance to non-English speakers.

However, agencies will still be able to provide documents and services in many languages.

The decision to designate an official language is explained by increasing government efficiency and ensuring civic engagement.
