Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar has announced his resignation, effective June 15, over his agency's failure to prevent the deadly October 7, 2023 Hamas attack and following a clash with Prime Minister Netanyahu, who tried to dismiss him last month.

Axar.az reports that Bar acknowledged Shin Bet's failure and stressed accountability, while legal challenges blocked Netanyahu's attempt to fire him temporarily.

The dispute is tied to broader tensions over Shin Bet's independence and allegations involving Netanyahu's aides and Qatar. Bar's resignation adds to a wave of senior security resignations following the attack.
