The Pentagon revealed detailed information about “Operation Midnight Hammer,” a major U.S. airstrike on Iran’s nuclear sites carried out on June 21, 2025. Described as the largest B-2 operational strike in U.S. history, the mission targeted Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan and inflicted “extremely severe damage.”
Axar.az reports citing CBS News.
Seven B-2 Spirits bombers departed from Missouri, flying an 18-hour mission with multiple refuelings. Over 125 U.S. aircraft were involved, including fighter jets, refueling, and surveillance planes. The operation began with a U.S. submarine launching over two dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles at Isfahan. At 2:10 a.m. Iran time, B-2s dropped 14 GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs—Massive Ordnance Penetrators—on Fordow and other sites. U.S. forces used decoys and evaded detection; no Iranian defenses responded.
General Dan Caine stated Iran’s air defenses were unaware of the attack, preserving the element of surprise. He warned that any retaliation would be met with force. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the strike an “overwhelming success” and emphasized that Iranian civilians and troops were not targeted.
President Trump, flanked by top officials, hailed the strike as a “spectacular military success” and warned Iran that future attacks could come “within minutes” if peace isn’t achieved. The strike also marked the first combat use of the GBU-57 MOPs and the longest B-2 mission since 2001.
