The Russian chargé d'affaires in Azerbaijan, Pyotr Volokov, who was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, has provided the necessary clarifications regarding the situation with the detention of members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg.
Axar.az informs, citing TASS, this was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The Russian chargé d'affaires in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Volokov, who was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry on June 28, provided the necessary clarifications to the Azerbaijani side and assured that the situation is under the control of law enforcement agencies," the diplomat stated.
As Zakharova reminded, the Investigative Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Sverdlovsk Region has already commented on the situation.
“In the course of investigating criminal cases related to serious crimes committed in previous years, Russian law enforcement agencies carried out detentions and searches at the residences of the suspects, who are Russian citizens of Azerbaijani origin,” the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized.
“Investigative actions related to the mentioned criminal cases are ongoing. More detailed information will be made public as it becomes available through the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation,” Zakharova concluded.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding the attacks against Azerbaijanis in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.
