The supporters of Maia Sandu, who received 47.2% of votes, attempted to challenge the elections.

Axar.az informs, the Constitutional Court of Moldova has endorsed the results of the presidential election won by Igor Dodon who seeks rapprochement with Russia. The letter sent by the Central Election Commission to the court said that during the November 13 elections Dodon had secured 52.1% of the vote, while his rival, Maia Sandu, who represented the pro-European opposition received 47.2%.

Although the Central Election Commission has approved the outcomes of the election, and international observers have recognized their legitimacy, Sandu’s supporters attempted to challenge the election results in courts which rejected their claims. For his part, Dodon accused them of deliberately delaying the process of assuming the office by the head of state.
Sandu’s representatives who spoke in the Constitutional Court pointed to the alleged electoral fraud, including abroad. They demanded to cancel the results of the second round, citing as an example Ukraine’s presidential election in 2004, when the third round was organized. However, the Constitutional Court rejected their claims.
