Regional military spending: Azerbaijan, Armenia top list

Azerbaijan and Armenia are the countries that spend the most money on military expenses in the territory of the former USSR.

Axar.az reports that this result was included in the report "Modern trends of militarization" prepared by the Institute of Economics and Peace.

According to information, Armenia spends 4.2% of its gross domestic product, and Azerbaijan spends 3.8% on military expenses. In Georgia, this indicator was only 1.3%.

In Russia, which is Azerbaijan's neighbor, military expenditures made up 2.4% of GDP, in Turkiye it was 0.7%, and in Iran it was 2.2%.

North Korea is considered the main leader in this issue in the world. Pyongyang's military expenditure was 24% of its GDP. This indicator was 10% in Afghanistan and 5.9% in Oman.
