The children of murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi have received multimillion-dollar homes and are being paid thousands of dollars per month by Saudi Arabia.

Axar.az reports citing Dailymail that, his four children - two sons and two daughters - have each been given houses in Jeddah worth up to $4million each, it has been claimed.

They are also being given payments of at least $10,000 per month with an additional payment totalling tens of millions of dollars apiece to be made once the trial of Khashoggi's alleged killers is completed.

The payments 'are aimed in part at ensuring [the children] continue to show restraint in their public statements,' the Washington Post reported, after speaking with Saudi officials involved in the negotiations.

The houses are located within a compound in Jeddah, with the largest property being given to eldest son Salah, who is the only child living permanently in Saudi.

The three other children - daughters Noha and Razan, and son Abdullah - live in the United States and are expected to sell their properties.

But Saudi Arabia denied the payments amounted to 'blood money' aimed at buying the family's silence, saying it was simply part of Arab culture.

Saudi often provides financial assistance to victims of violent crime.

Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post and a critic of Saudi Arabia's ruling family, was killed inside the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul in October last year.

Saudi Arabia's crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, has been accused of ordering Khashoggi's killing, but the kingdom claims the prince was not involved.

Saudi Arabia initially said it had no knowledge of Khashoggi's fate but later blamed rogue agents for his death.
