The delegation of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan will not participate in the 12th plenary session of the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held in Yerevan on October 28-30.
Axar.az informs Tahir Mirkishili, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to EuroNest PA, said in a statement to APА.
Tahir Mirkishili said that the documents and declarations adopted by the European Parliament, which makes up half ofEuroNest PA, are against the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan:
“These statements also do not support the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the region; on the contrary, they serve the interests of forces that are interested in the continuation of hostility in the region. The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan has repeatedly issued protest statements on this matter. After the peace meeting held in Washington in August this year between the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, which was applauded by the whole world, the European Parliament’s non-constructive statement regarding this event has once again dealt a serious blow to the Azerbaijani delegation’s confidence in the usefulness of cooperation with this organization within the framework of EuroNest PA. For these reasons, we will not participate in the plenary session to be held in Yerevan. We have also conveyed our objections to the leadership of the organization. I should note that this decision is not related to the fact that the event is being held in Armenia. Today, peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia has already been ensured, and practical steps are also being taken to normalize relations.”
