Zangezur to connect Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, and Armenia

The Zangezur corridor is a large-scale project that includes several routes.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Elchin Amirbayov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, in an interview with Poland’s "TVP World" television channel.

He recalled that the “Trump Route” (TRIPP) – a project agreed to be implemented following the results of the Washington summit in August of this year – is part of the Zangezur corridor.

“The Zangezur corridor will allow achieving several goals at the same time. First of all, it will connect the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan. This route will also connect Armenia and Azerbaijan after three decades. In addition, it will be one of the alternative routes from Asia to Europe. We are talking about an important transportation link that will allow trade volumes between Asia and Europe to increase in both directions. Since we want lasting peace in the South Caucasus, both sides – Baku and Yerevan – agreed, with U.S. mediation, that this peace will bring equal economic benefits and noticeable results. I think that as a result, this will lead to a certain economic interdependence between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and they, I believe, will be able to operate as a single economic space,” he noted.

According to the Special Representative, 2025 will go down in history as a turning year for relations between Baku and Yerevan, and in a broader sense, for the entire South Caucasus.

“After three decades of conflict, competition, and confrontation, Armenia and Azerbaijan decided to establish peace. The August 8 Washington summit was an extremely important moment confirming the leaders’ commitment to strong and irreversible peace. We believe that this is only the beginning of long-term relations.

The main cause of the conflict – Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan – has been eliminated. After our country restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty, Baku proposed that the Armenian side begin work on a peace agreement draft. After two and a half years of discussions, in March 2025, the parties agreed on the text of the peace agreement draft,” Amirbayov emphasized.

He added that during the Washington summit, the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the U.S. reached important agreements that will bring successful economic results for all three parties.
